Review of “Hellfire & Damnation” (April 20, 2010)
Final proof of Volume II of Ghostly Tales of Route 66 has gone to the publisher, who hopes to have it out by the end of summer. Connie will be the featured speaker at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge Second Annual Route 66 Festival in St. Louis on October 3 rd. (Stay tuned for more information about book signings and appearances.)
Connie took part in a book signing for local authors during the dedication of the new Independence Public Library (her home town) recently (see photo), and also took part in a book signing at Barnes & Noble in Davenport, Iowa for a short story collection in which 2 of her stories appeared.
Connie appeared at a book signing in Chicago at “Centuries & Sleuths” bookstore to promote “Ghosts of Route 66,” Volume I and “Out of Time.” (See photo).
Second proofing of Classic Cinema of the ‘70s has gone to the layout artist, who is inserting 76 photos (scanned to 300 to 600 grayscale .tif format). Hopefully, a rough draft of the book will be ready to take to the Hawaii Writers’ Conference and Retreat, Aug. 28 – Sept. 8 th.
Connie attended the Backspace Writers’ Conference bestowing of an honorary award on David Morrell, an interview subject who formerly taught at the University of Iowa (author of Rambo). She was in town for the BEA (Book Expo America) and giving out copies of her novel Out of Time at the HWA booth.
In February, Connie served on two panels at “Love Is Murder” in Wheaton, Illinois, one dealing with screenwriting (a result of her win in the 2007 “Writer’s Digest” screenplay competition) and one on the short story. It was the second appearance on a panel for LIM.
March 20, 2010: At the Midwest Writing Center’s annual banquet at Davenport’s Outing Club, Connie was named the recipient of the David R. Collins Writer of the Year award for her commitment to the printed word and her publishing achievements.
March 30, 2010: Signed a contract with a publishing company in Boca Raton, Florida to publish “Classic Cinema of the ’70s: It Came from the ’70s.” 9 months estimated time till the book drops.
May 8, 2010: At 11:30 a.m., in Davenport’s River Music Experience, Connie will be presenting an audio-visual look at professionally made book trailers for her last 5 books during the First Annual Quad City Book Fair. The trailers will be in conjunction with the Quad City Book Fair, which she has been serving as Marketing/Fundraising Chairperson. There will be programming throughout the day onstage at Mojo’s, inside the RME at 2nd and Main Street in Davenport. The headliner for the day, Max Allan Collins, will appear at 1:30 p.m.
May 25-May 28: Connie will be at the BEA (Book Expo America) signing books on March 27th, 2010. There are over 5,000 exhibitors scheduled to take part in this largest book fair in North America. Jon Stewart will introduce Condoleeza Rice at the morning breakfast. Connie signs her book Hellfire & Damnation right after Jonathan Maberry, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday.
June 11-12: Connie will be present at Printer’s Row in Chicago from 10 to 7 p.m. both days of this largest-in-the-Midwest event.
